Valencia – Espanyol

Valencia hosts Espanyol in a game from the 31th round of the Spanish La Liga. The match is going to be played at the Estadio Mestalla in the city of Valencia.

Valencia are doing much better than they were doing during last season. Now the Los Che secured their return to the Champions League, being 4th in the standings and 15 points ahead of the 5th Villarreal. The team’s manager Marcelino did some very good job this season, transforming the club to a contender for the Top 4 once again.

So far Valencia have a record of 19 wins, 5 draws and 6 losses. In their last five matches the Los Che are unbeaten – one draw and four consecutive wins, achieved over Real Betis, Sevilla, Deportivo Alaves and Leganes.

Right now Valencia are just one point behind the 3rd Real Madrid, so even the third place is still a possible goal for the team from Mestalla.

Espanyol on the other hand are 14th in La Liga with 36 points won so far. Their record in the league shows 8 wins, 12 draws and 10 defeats. In their last five matches the Los Pericos won twice, made two draws and suffered one defeat against Real Betis.

Like almost every other, this season is not anything special for the Catalan club. Espanyol are completely safe from relegation at the moment, but in same time they are far away from doing anything special in the league.

Valencia are the big favourite against Espanyol, especially at home ground. Marcelino’s team is doing very well in the league this season, after being so mediocre just an year ago. They still have chances even for a Top 3 finish, so we shall see them motivated in their next clash. For Espanyol it won’t change anything, they are playing for their own reputation.
