Premier League – Newcastle United-Manchester United
It’s time for another great game in the Premier League, because on Sunday Newcastle United hosts Manchester United at the St. James’ Park in a match from the 8th round of the competition. Let’s take a look.
When Steve Bruce replaced the resigned Rafael Benitez after the end of the last season, he knew what he has to expect in Newcastle – another difficult fight for survival. It doesn’t look much different after seven rounds played, because right now the Magpies are in the relegation zone of the Premier League, being 19th with just five points won so far.
In their last four matches in the league Newcastle won only two points. Last week the Magpies visited Leicester City at the King Power and it wasn’t a pleasant experience for them. Bruce’s boys were totally outperformed, suffering a heavy 0-5 loss. For the visitors it got a lot more difficult at the end of the first half, when the midfielder Isaac Hayden got sent off. That’s the reason why Hayden won’t be able to play against Manchester United on Sunday.
For Manchester United this season is not much different than the previous one. Just like Jose Mourinho before him, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer struggles to make things right at the Old Trafford. Right now the Red Devils are 10th in the standings with 9 points won, being on 12 points behind the leader Liverpool. No matter how you look at it, it’s totally unacceptable for a club as big as Manchester United.
The statistics are unforgiving to United and Solskjaer – in their last five games, the Red Devils won only once – against Leicester City at home. In the previous round United shared the points with Arsenal at the Old Trafford. They desperately need a win at the moment.
That’s our quick preview for the Premier League game between Newcastle United and Manchester United on Sunday. Can the Red Devils get in a better rhythm? Or Newcastle will manage to escape the relegation zone?
