La Liga – Atletico Madrid-Levante
Atletico Madrid start their 2020 with a home game against Levante at the Wanda Metropolitano in the capital. Let’s take a look at this fixture in the beautiful Spanish capital on Saturday.
Atletico Madrid need points in order to catch up with the leaders. Right now Diego Simeone’s team is 4th in the league with 32 points, being two points behind the third Sevilla. Meanwhile the leader Barcelona is 7 points ahead. Atleti need to do some catching up right now.
Atletico managed to deal with some dip in their form, winning their last two matches against Osasuna and Real Betis. Los Colchoneros are having difficulties to find the consistency they need. The fact that they won just 8 of their 18 games played so far is proving this. Just for comparison – the leader Barcelona have won 12 games so far.
In the previous round Atletico Madrid did pretty well, though. Cholo Simeone’s boys visited Real Betis at the Benito Villamarin and enjoyed a 2-1 win. Angel Correa and Alvaro Morata scored for the visitors, securing the win.
Simeone’s problems for this next game are related to the injuries of Vitolo, Stefan Savic and Diego Costa who are all missing the next match.
Levante are having a decent season so far. They are currently 9th in La Liga with 26 points and a record of 8 wins, 2 draws and 8 draws. As far as they are in the Top 10, Los Blaugranas can be satisfied with their performance.
Just like Atletico Madrid, Levante won their last two matches in the league. After they took all of the points against Granada, they repeated this performance against Celta Vigo as well. Roger Marti scored a brace, whila Borja Mayoral put an end to the game for a 3-1 win for Levante.
Atletico Madrid do not have any other choice, but to look for the win against Levante on Saturday. Los Colchoneros are already 7 points behind the leader Barcelona, so there’s no room for taking steps back now.
