Champions League – Liverpool-Napoli
The reigning European champion Liverpool hosts Napoli at the Anfield in a game from Group E of the Champions League.
Liverpool approach this game with the thought of winning the group. Right now the Reds are one point ahead of Napoli at first place and a win on Wednesday will make them untouchable. Since their defeat against Napoli at the San Paolo in the first round, Liverpool enjoyed a pretty good run of three consecutive wins in the group.
In the previous round Liverpool hosted Genk and it was not easy, but they still managed to achieve a 2-1 win. Georginio Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored for the Reds. In this match Jurgen Klopp decided to start with some rotations, leaving Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino on the bench. This hurted his team’s firepower more or less.
Liverpool are at a great place right now. They are leading the Premier League standings with a pretty big margin and they are at top in their Champions League group. It seems that we shall expect another great season from the European champion.
Napoli managed to beat Liverpool at home, but their mistakes after this are the reason why they are currently second in the group. They were leaders, but their 1-1 draw against Salzburg at the San Paolo allowed Liverpool to overtake them. Hirving Lozano scored Napoli’s only goal against the tough Austrians, but one goal was not enough on this day.
We believe that Liverpool will face Napoli with their strongest line-up in order to win this group. If this happens, Jurgen Klopp could rotate his entire starting eleven for the last game in Salzburg. Meanwhile Napoli could find themselves in a dangerous position if they lose this match and Salzburg win against Genk. If this happens, the Red Bulls will be really close to them.
