RB Leipzig will try do suprise a lot of people when they face Atletico Madrid in Lisboa in a match from the 1/4-finals of the Champions League. We all expect Atletico to win this, but the Germans are eager to fight and show their quality. Let’s preview this.
How can RB Leipzig do without their star striker Timo Werner? That’s the question we are all asking ourselves at the moment. Werner was arguably Leipzig’s best player, but he chose to leave the team and sign with Chelsea. He refused to finish the Champions League campaign and opted to do a pre-season with his new club instead.
RB Leipzig’s manager Julian Nagelsmann believes that his team could deal with Timo Werner’s absence. The Red Bulls have some nice players, although they don’t have another striker of Werner’s quality. The Germans will try to use their teamwork and passion against a much bigger European force which is Atletico.
Atletico Madrid were troubled by two positive coronavirus tests before the trip to Lisboa. Sime Vrsaljko and Angel Correa tested positive for COVID-19, so they are both not going to travel to Lisboa. Despite of this UEFA decided to give the green light to the game.
Atletico Madrid’s manager Diego Simeone won’t be calm until the finally wins the Champions League with Los Colchoneros. He reached the final twice in the last six years, but he lost in both occassions against Real Madrid. Now the Spanish giants are marching on towards their third final in the last years.
Atletico made a huge statement in the previous round of the competition when they eliminated the trophy holders Liverpool. This is going to give them a huge confidence for the final rounds in Lisboa.
