Champions League – Club Brugge-Borussia Dortmund
The Belgian champion Club Brugge hosts Borussia Dortmund in a match from Group A of the UEFA Champions League. Let’s take a look at this clash from Europe’s most prestigious competition.
Brugge are returning to the Champions League after they managed to win the Belgian First Division A last season. Most pundits pick them as underdogs in their group, but Belgium’s performance at the last World Cup is a proof that football in this country is developing very well. Athough Brugge are not a club from the stature of Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Monaco, maybe they will cause some upsets in this group.
In the Belgian First Division A Brugge started pretty well, being leaders after the first 7 rounds with 19 points won. Their record is near perfect – six wins and one draw. They have scored 19 goals and conceded 7. In their last game Brugge had a tough fight, but managed to beat Lokeren with 2-1 at home.
For Borussia Dortmund is something normal to participate in the Champions League. Right now Dortmund are not a club from Bayern Munich’s level in the Bundesliga, but they are good enough to play on a regular basis in the Champions League. This is important for them, because this is how they keep their level high.
Right now Borussia Dortmund are second in the Bundesliga standings with 7 points, being on just 2 points behind the leader and champion Bayern Munich. Dortmund’s record from the first three matches shows two wins and one draw. In their last game they managed to beat Eintracht Frankfurt with 3-1 at home.
For sure Borussia Dortmund are a favourite against Club Brugge, even away from home. But how we said, we think that Brugge could cause some upsets in this group. The other teams have to be careful with them.
