Bundesliga – Augsburg-Wolfsburg
Augsburg hosts Wolfsburg at the WWK Arena in a fixture from the 26th round of the Bundesliga. The German league is the first major European league that returns to action after the COVID-19 quarantine break. We can’t wait to see some Bundesliga action again, so let’s see what these two teams can offer at this moment.
Augsburg approach the return of the Bundesliga from 14th place in the standings. They have 27 points won so far, being just five points above the relegation playoff spot. Augsburg will aim to improve their problematic form which we saw before the break. Heiko Herrlich’s team lost four of its last five matches in the league, without winning more than a point for this period of time.
Heiko Herrlich was sacked by Bayer Leverkusen just few months after the start of the campaign, but now the former German international can prove his qualities at Augsburg. The question is – will he do it? We will follow closely his team’s performance after the COVID-19 break.
About Wolfsburg we can say that the Wolves are having a fine season so far. They are 7th in the Bundesliga with 36 points, but just one point behind the 6th Schalke 04. At this moment Wolfsburg look close to return to the Europa League, but we are still about to see in what shape they will be after the two month break.
Against Augsburg Wolfsburg will be without the suspended Wout Weghorst, while players such as William, Ignacio Camacho and Yannick Gerdhardt are recovering from injuries. We will see how the club’s manager Oliver Glasner will react to these problems in his squad.
Based on these two teams’ positions in the table, we have to say that Wolfsburg must be favourites against Augsburg on Saturday. The only problem is that after such a long break, it’s quite a mystery how all of the teams will look like. Including these two.
